The Challenge

Most Organizations Are Flying Blind on Video.

You know video works. Your leadership knows video works. But somewhere between the strategy meeting and the final deliverable, things get expensive, slow, and inconsistent.

The problem is rarely a shortage of talent or budget. It is a shortage of system. Most marketing and communications teams are either over-relying on expensive external agencies for work that could be done in-house, or they have built internal capabilities that are mismatched to their actual volume and content mix.

Very few have designed the hybrid model that actually fits how they operate.

Budget Leakage

Paying agency rates for content your team could produce internally — or building internal infrastructure for occasional high-production work.

Inconsistent Output

No shared standards, no production brief, no asset management system. Every project starts from scratch.

Undefined Roles

Unclear handoffs between internal staff and external vendors create delays, rework, and accountability gaps.

Missing Post-Production

The most consistently neglected pillar of any media operation — and where the budget quietly disappears.

The Core Insight

There Is No Such Thing as a Fully Insourced or Fully Outsourced Video Operation.

Once an organization reaches a meaningful volume of video content, the question is never "agency or in-house?" It is always both — in the right proportions, for the right content types.

Internal teams excel at speed, institutional knowledge, and sensitive internal communications that cannot be handed to an outside vendor. External partners excel at high production value, specialized expertise, and the occasional tentpole project that would be absurd to staff for internally.

The organizations that waste the most money on video are the ones that have not made this distinction deliberately. Denver Video Consulting helps you draw that line — and build the system on both sides of it.

Aerospace & Defense

Large Aerospace Contractor

Identifying the Missing Pillar in a $1.5M Media Operation

A major aerospace and defense contractor had a media team of more than 20 people — and not a single full-time video editor. Of the four pillars of media production (pre-production, production, post-production, and asset management), post-production had no dedicated role and no infrastructure. TJ diagnosed the gap, advocated for the creation of the function, defined the role, hired for it, and built the edit bay and workflow systems around it. The result: roles that had been stretched across shooting and editing could specialize, senior stakeholders could review work in real time, and the organization's visual communications raised its profile internally — all within a $1.5M budget operation.

Mid-Sized Communications Agency

Building a Media Asset Management System That Actually Gets Used

A Denver-area marketing agency had a small internal video department serving clients across multiple accounts. The problem was not the team — it was the data. Multiple operating systems, consumer-grade transfer drives, and no centralized storage meant that client video assets were effectively unsearchable and unusable after delivery. TJ designed and built a lightweight Media Asset Management system in Airtable — optimized for simplicity, speed, and low cost. The system made client assets searchable and accessible for future campaigns, directly improving the agency's ability to retain clients and extend the value of existing video investments.

Legacy Magazine Publisher — OTT Launch

Launching an OTT Network from Scratch in Under Six Months

A major legacy magazine publisher launched an internal startup to build a proprietary OTT streaming network — a branded app, website, and mobile experience delivering lean-back video programming across multiple brands. TJ was one of the original four team members tasked with building the post-production capability from the ground up. The team grew to 50 people in six months. He oversaw four to eight edit bays, full-time staff, contractors, and at times 24/7 operations — guiding television executive producers through new-media delivery formats and aggregating short-form internet video, traditional TV programming, and long-form documentary series into a unified content library. The network launched on time with a full catalog delivered.

About

20 Years of Video Problems. A Genuine Abundance of Solutions.

TJ Daly has worked in video production for two decades — starting as a video editor in New York and Los Angeles, working across entertainment, corporate, and industrial production, and eventually leading enterprise media operations at Lockheed Martin Space, where he oversaw a team of 12 and managed a labor budget in the low seven figures.

What TJ brings to a Discovery Call is not a pitch. It is a diagnostic. He has seen enough video operations — from scrappy startup content teams to seven-figure aerospace media departments — to identify the highest-leverage problem in your workflow within the first conversation. And he will tell you what it is, directly, whether or not you hire him.

"There is no shortage of video problems to solve. My goal in a Discovery Call is to give you the most valuable answer I can — and trust that the work will follow."
